Kaun Banega Crorepati
The Indian version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Kaun Banega Crorepati was first launched in the year 2000. Over the years, there have been seven seasons of the show. However, it was the first season that achieved unprecedented success as the highest rated non-fiction show ever in the history of Indian television. With superstar Amitabh Bachchan playing the host, on Indian television for the first time, the first season of Kaun Banega Crorepati totally stopped the nation in its tracks.
The second season launched in 2005 with an even bigger prize money of Rs.2 crores from Season 1's Rs 1 crore.
Season 3 of Kaun Banega Crorepati was the only season that did not have Amitabh Bachchan as the host. Instead, the charismatic Shah Rukh Khan was brought on as its affable host, bringing in his trademark wit and youthful charm to the show.
To the delight of viewers, in 2010, BIG Synergy's Kaun Banega Crorepati brought back the iconic Amitabh Bachchan as host for the third time. With new lifelines, a ticking clock and Rs 5 crore to be won,this season gave common man yet another chance to make it big with their favourite Bollywood star. The series also had special celebrity episodes in the Hot Seat format, where six celebrities played on a rotational basis.
In its fifth season Kaun Banega Crorepati offered contestants ‘panchkoti mahamoney’ and the ‘manchaha padhav ‘.Viewers too had the opportunity to win lakhs of rupees by answering the home-viewer question.
In its sixth season Kaun Banega Crorepati became a show that brought the contestant, gyaan, maan aur sammaan (knowledge, recognition,
and respect). This season had doosra mauka (second
chance) contestants.
The seventh season was called Kaun Banega MahaCrorepati. With a completely new look and change of set, this season presented the show in a completely new avatar. The game now also offered upto 7 crore rupees as the prize money.
Seasons 1, 2 and 3 were telecast on Star Plus. Season 4 onward was telecast on Sony Entertainment Television.
